Tom Schwarm

Thomas E. Schwarm is president of Acadia Environmental Technology. He specializes in hydrogeology and is a Certified Geologist in Maine and a Professional Geologist in New Hampshire.

He has an A.B. in geology from Boston University and a M.S. in geology from the University of Vermont. Tom’s career started with environmental consulting in Vermont. In the early 1980’s he was a petroleum exploration geologist in the Rocky Mountain region. Prior to opening Acadia in 1993, Tom spent nine years as a senior remedial scientist with Groundwater Technology and opened and managed the Portland, Maine office.
Tom has experience in a wide range of geologic disciplines including groundwater modeling, aquifer analysis, well hydraulics, geochemistry, geophysics and treatment technologies. Because of his background, Tom has a broad role at Acadia, which in addition to management of the company, includes environmental due diligence, geologic and hydrogeologic investigation, soil and groundwater remediation, and expert testimony.
Tom was a founding member of the Maine Technology Institute’s Environmental and Energy Technology Board. He has served on the board of directors of the Maine Center for Enterprise Development. Outside of Acadia, Tom enjoys skiing and sailing. Tom is actively involved in his home community and coaches high school sailing at SailMaine in Portland.

Mark Arienti

He is a registered professional engineer in both Maine and New Hampshire. Mark has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Union College and a M.S. in Civil Environmental Engineering from Tufts University. Before working for Acadia, Mark spent 9 years as Environmental Manager with Ecomaine (formerly Regional Waste Systems). Mark was responsible for ensuring the environmental compliance of a 550-ton per day waste-to-energy (WTE) facility and 50 acres of active ash landfill and over 40 acres of closed municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill. He managed the environmental monitoring and permitting for these facilities as well as performed the planning and oversight of the installation of new air pollution control systems at the WTE facility, the final closure and post closure of the MSW landfills, and a 20-acre expansion of the ash landfill. Previously, Mark was an engineer with an international consulting company. He conducted a broad range of projects that included site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance.
Mark brings his experience with landfill design and construction, air emissions source licensing and monitoring, air pollution control systems, and environmental compliance to Acadia. Mark is a senior environmental engineer at Acadia and manages soil and groundwater remediation and industrial facility compliance projects. Tasks involved with these projects include: the development of oil spill prevention, control, and countermeasures (SPCC) plans, stormwater pollution prevention (SWPP) plans, contingency plans, toxic use reduction plans, and environmental permits.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys bicycling, cross-country skiing and hiking. He currently coaches the Portland Middle School Nordic ski team.

Martha Mixon

Martha is a Maine Certified Geologist and has a B.A. in Biology from Beloit College in Wisconsin, and a M.Ph. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Queens College, City University of New York. She specializes in the interpretation of geologic information, together with soil and groundwater analytical data, to characterize, delineate, and remediate soil and groundwater at sites impacted by industrial and commercial activities. Martha’s past experience includes geophysical surveys for engineering and environmental applications, groundwater exploration projects, erosion studies, mineral resource assessments, development of geographic information databases of mineral localities for mineral resource inventory projects. She has also worked in an environmental laboratory on certification compliance, writing and tracking of standard operating procedure (SOPs) documents and revisions.
As a project manager and senior geologist at Acadia, Martha has led hydrogeologic investigations, hazardous waste investigations, and environmental due diligence assessments at petroleum sites, utility pole storage sites, and other industrial and commercial properties.
Martha is actively involved in the Geological Society of Maine, currently serving as the organization's secretary. She is a naturalist and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including canoeing, cross-country skiing and hiking.

Joe Renda
Geologist
Joseph F. Renda is a geologist who has managed projects at Acadia since 2000.

He has a B.A. in Geology from the University of Southern Maine and a M.S. in Geology from the State University of New York, Albany. Joe completed a structural analysis of the Gonic Formation in southern Maine for his Masters thesis. His knowledge has been useful in identifying fracture orientation, fault propagation, rock competence, and contaminant distribution and pathways.
Joe manages the field staff at Acadia, which includes coordinating groundwater management sites throughout Northern New England. Joe is responsible for all aspects of site activities ranging from coordination with state regulators, clients and laboratories, field work supervision, budgeting, invoicing, report preparation and cost recovery. He is also responsible for conducting and preparing underground storage tank closure assessments, site investigations and managing soil and groundwater remediation activities.
Joe is an avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast.

Keith Stone
Environmental Engineer
Keith D. Stone is an environmental engineer who joined Acadia in December 2006.

He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with specialties in environmental engineering and land use. Before working for Acadia, Keith spent three years as an environmental engineer with a large engineering firm where he worked in site remediation.
Keith is involved with the management and field implementation of soil and groundwater investigations, permitting for large scale remediation projects, writing technical specification packages for remediation projects, remedial system design and installation, and drafting using AutoCAD.
Keith is an avid saltwater sport fisherman.
